T-Mobile US, Inc. is an American wireless network operator headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, and Bellevue, Washington, U.S. Its largest shareholder is multinational telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom AG, which as of April 2023, holds a 53.3% majority stake in the company.
T-Mobile US is the third-largest wireless carrier in the United States, with 113.6 million subscribers at the end of Q4 2022. The company was founded in 1994 by John W. Stanton of the Western Wireless Corporation as VoiceStream Wireless, Deutsche Telekom then gained plurality ownership in 2001 and renamed it after its T-Mobile brand.

Will 4G ever go away?
When will 4G be phased out? – No major carriers have announced plans to shut down their 4G networks, so it’s safe to assume that 4G will be around for quite a while. If we look at 3G as an example of what we might expect, it took over two decades from its commercial launch in 2001 to the beginning of its phase-out in the US in 2022.

Since we didn’t really see the phase out of 3G networks until 5G was already in the works, it’s safe to say that we can expect 4G to last just as long.

Apple’s tech specs for both the iPhone 8 and iPhone X don’t show support for the Band 71 needed to access the network, and a T-Mobile representative confirmed Friday in a tweet that the 600MHz spectrum won’t be supported by the new phones. That’s significant news for T-Mobile customers planning to buy one of Apple’s latest iPhones.
While T-Mobile’s existing LTE network will continue to be accessible on the new iPhones, the devices won’t have access to the extended coverage that T-Mobile is betting will help it compete with AT&T and Verizon in less urban areas. “It’s the equivalent of beachfront spectrum, the stuff that works better in buildings and travels further from the tower,” T-Mobile CEO John Legere said in a video posted earlier this year announcing the carrier’s blockbuster $8 billion purchase of the coveted spectrum.

What is happening with T-Mobile 2G network?
T-Mobile has announced a plan to shutdown its 2G network in the US. The 2G shutdown will be completed by April of 2024. Devices that connect to only 2G network should plan to upgrade to LTE based products.
Why is T-Mobile shutting down its 2G network?
Carriers need to be able to re-use spectrum to grow new networks and provide faster, more responsive technology for their customers. Old 2G/3G infrastructure must make way for new networks, and this means older cellular devices will no longer be viable and must be retired.
Will my 2G Electron/Boron stop working?
Devices are expected to lose T-Mobile cellular connectivity. Your device may still be able to work until April 2, 2024 if it has access to T-Mobile’s 2G network, however, network connectivity and features like OTA updates could be severely degraded.
Will my devices connect to T-Mobile’s network?
If T-Mobile coverage is available in your area, your devices should connect to it through March 2024. You can use, to do a and check if T-Mobile network is available in your area.
