How long is Crabfest at Red Lobster 2023?
Crabfest Is Back at Red Lobster – Starting this week, Red Lobster’s beloved Crabfest is back for a limited time, after four years. What is Crabfest, you ask? A celebration of all things “clawsome” and “crabtastic,” Crabfest is a limited-time event at Red Lobster wherein guests can crack into special deals and exclusive menu items that highlight the titular shellfish: crab.
- This year, despite worries about crab supply, guests can dig into a full pound of steamed Snow or Bairdi crab legs and customize their meal with one of several new flavor options: Roasted Garlic Butter, Honey Sriracha, or Lemon Pepper.
- Each crab-centric meal comes with potatoes, a choice of side, and of course, Red Lobster’s famous Cheddar Bay Biscuits,
And those are not the only menu additions at Red Lobster. To kick off Crabfest, the chain is introducing several new items to its menus. For fans of surf and turf, Red Lobster’s got a brand new option, Crab & Oscar-Topped Sirloin. That decadent option features 1/2 pound of snow crab and a 7-ounce sirloin topped with lump crab in a garlic cream sauce.

What color lobster is the rarest?
The Blue Lobster – Don’t be fooled, lobsters are not red! One of Norman Rockwell’s most popular covers debuted in the Saturday Evening Post on April’s Fools Day, 1945. It has over 50 intentional inaccuracies. The blue lobster in the illustration is not one of them. Can you find the other “mistakes” and contradictions below?
image credit: sneakermestupid.com The odds of catching a blue lobster are 1-in-2 million. While yellow and orange-and-black calico lobsters come in at 1-in-30 million. Split-colored varieties have been pegged at 1-in-50 million. White – the rarest of all – at 1-in-100 million.
- Science tells us that blue lobsters are not just uncommon, but are in fact mutants.
- This is the result of a genetic mutation that causes the blue color.
- Blue lobsters are, in fact, the result of a single mutation of one piece of the SNA of American lobsters,
- This mutation causes an overproduction of a particular protein.
This results in the bright blue pigment, rather than the typical mix of pigments that give the typical greenish-brown. In the wild, approximately one one in 2 million lobsters are blue. It isn’t clear whether all of these are descendants of the first mutant blue lobster, or if it is independently occurring. Rare Blue Lobster Illustrated by Ana Castillo Ericksen
Why is Red Lobster blue?
A stunning blue lobster has one shell of a story. Instead of ending up as someone’s dinner, Clawdia the crustacean was recently sent to live out her days at a zoo in Akron, Ohio — and she owes it all to an unlikely person: an employee at a Red Lobster, A rare blue lobster discovered by an employee at a Red Lobster restaurant in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, was adopted by the Akron Zoo. Michelle Falconer “At first, the lobster just looked a little off,” Michelle Falconer, the general manager at the Red Lobster in Cuyahoga Falls where Clawdia was found, told TODAY Food.
But when we put her in our tank, she was this beautiful, brilliant color.” According to the University of Maine’s Lobster Institute, only an estimated one out of every 2 million lobsters are blue and the coloration comes from a genetic defect. The rarest of all lobsters are white, which is seen in just one out of every 100 million lobsters.
Falconer contacted the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California (Red Lobster is connected to the famous facility through the sustainability organization Seafood Watch ) and the aquarium then reached out to the Akron Zoo. On Friday, Clawdia, was carefully transported to her new home.
- Shortly after we introduced Clawdia to her aquarium, she started moving rocks around to create her own cave.
- That was a good sign, it means she’s doing well,” Vince Jeffries, director of marketing and public relations for the Akron Zoo, told TODAY.
- Watch TODAY All Day ! Get the best news, information and inspiration from TODAY, all day long.
Jeffries noted that it’s important for Clawdia to take it easy after her move and said staff members have been monitoring her carefully. “We want to make sure that she has a successful molt in September or October,” Jeffries said. In order for a lobster to grow, it must shed its shell.
Though Clawdia is currently living in isolation — the zoo quarantines animals for up to 90 days for safety reasons — she will eventually move into a visible habitat area near the Stripe-leg slipper lobsters. Since Clawdia is a cold water lobster, she will remain in her own tank. “We’ve really been pampering her,” Jeffries said.
“She actually just enjoyed a shrimp feast!” Clawdia was originally named Clawde by Red Lobster crew members. However, after determining that she was a female, a veterinarian at the Akron Zoo gave her name a feminine update. Popeyes’s post. it’s the Almost #1 Best Selling Shrimp in America*! the popcorn shrimp.
Why is Red Lobster famous?
3. Red Lobster is responsible for popcorn shrimp – Brent Hofacker/Shutterstock In 1974, Red Lobster introduced its legendary popcorn shrimp to the menu. The bite-sized battered and deep-fried delights were an ingenious invention capitalizing on the increasing popularity of shrimp in the U.S. during the 1970s.
CEO of Darden Restaurants, Inc. Joe Lee noted to the Orlando Business Journal in 1998: “We, invented popcorn shrimp and introduced snow crab and calamari to middle America.” This move solidified the mainstream consumption of seafood from coast to coast. While numerous other seafood restaurants have attempted to create variations on this dish, none have been quite as successful in turning it into such a sensation.
Popcorn shrimp remains one of the most popular items on the Red Lobster menu, with reviewers commenting on how much they love it. However, we do not recommend making it a frequent treat — one side order of popcorn shrimp packs a nutritional punch of 430 calories and a whopping 1,860 milligrams of sodium, almost the entire recommended daily value of 2,300 milligrams of sodium.

Can you take leftovers from endless shrimp?
How to conquer Endless Shrimp at Red Lobster “I’m sorry for what I did, I did what my body told me to.” – Weezer, Butterfly, a song (probably) written about Endless Shrimp. It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Endless Shrimp at Red Lobster. A couple weeks ago, I walked the hallowed halls of Red Lobster in downtown Toronto.
I made some mistakes. OK, I made a lot of mistakes. I let the shrimp win. Last night, I went back for round two. But this time, I was ready. With some expert advice from my co-workers, a heightened sense of self and a wonderful waitress named Laura to guide me, I made it through Endless Shrimp and lived to tell the tale.
And you can too. It’s hard, but it’s not impossible. Below, I’ve rounded up the biggest mistakes I made and how you can learn from them. You can thank me later – preferably with the Cheddar Bay Biscuits you didn’t eat. You can’t. And that is the problem. Mistake: Filling up on biscuits This is your first test.
There are going to be biscuits, and they are going to be delicious, and they are going to be never-ending. Do not let the biscuits win. Try to limit yourself to one. OK, two. Don’t take the third one. You’ll regret it. Mistake: Filling up on sides The sides offered along with Endless Shrimp are a cruel ploy to fill you up before you feast.
Forego both the rice and potatoes. If you’re anything like me, you probably need the salad to avoid scurvy, so don’t skip that. Mistake: Starting with the Shrimp Alfredo The Shrimp Alfredo is my favourite dish from Red Lobster, so naturally, I ordered it first.
- Big mistake.
- It may be one of the most delicious shrimp selections on the menu but it’s probably also the most filling.
- While your heart may say go forth with the Alfredo, don’t do it.
- To maximize shrimp consumed, leave it until the end.
- Mistake: Everyone ordering Endless Shrimp This blew my mind.
- The second time around, our waitress revealed to us that we didn’t all have to order Endless Shrimp.
She suggested two of the four people in attendance get the Endless Shrimp, and the other two get a different dinner – and we could all share. Variety! As long as the dishes ordered are around the same price as Endless Shrimp ($21.99 here in Canada), you should be good – but double check with your waitress to be sure.
Mistake: Sticking to the menu The current Endless Shrimp menu includes Pineapple Habanero Coconut Bites, Teriyaki Grilled Shrimp, Hand Breaded Shrimp, Shrimp Linguini Alfredo and Garlic Shrimp. But wait, there’s more! Basically, between my intensive research (on Reddit, mostly) and in the field detective work, I have found that there are more options: you just have to know to ask for them.
You can also get Grilled Shrimp and Popcorn Shrimp, which is kind of the best if you’re going for number of shrimp eaten (FYI, you apparently need to eat 100 shrimp to make Red Lobster lose money). Laura also brought us some kind of tempura-style shrimp.
Mistake: Getting the aforementioned Pineapple Habanero Coconut Bites They’re not good. Mistake: Eating slowly
There’s no time for drinking or socializing! You’ve got a job to do! Mistake: Not taking a trophy (leftovers) home Tapped out? Not to worry. Most servers will let you take your leftover shrimp home (if you, unlike me, felt like you could ever eat shrimp again).
- For best results, stick to the grilled options – breaded shrimp doesn’t look so good the morning after.
- Mistake: Trying to be healthy I’m sorry, but what about ENDLESS SHRIMP did you think would not be heart attack inducing? If you’re trying to stick to a meal plan or follow any kind of dietary restraints, carry on.

Restaurant at 6pm was somewhat busy but not too busy (Dundas W, Toronto).
Biscuits were good as usual. No complaints about the sides (baked potato, rice, coleslaw, 1 side per person). The initial portions they brought out seemed like quite a lot IMO, it took us a while to finish. When we were close to finishing is when they took our refill order. Refill on garlic shrimp & shrimp skewers is about half of initial portions, I believe the deef fried Walts & coconut refills are same or close to same as initial portion.
Server was nice & polite but didn’t come over often (not a big deal for us as we did take a while to finish 1st order). Food was good, not too salty but it does become repetitive eating the same thing, so we only did the initial portion & 1 refill per person.
We are not big eaters, felt stuffed regardless. Great value in 2023 for dine-in resto. Drink lots of water. When they bring out the machine for you (it’s much bigger than most places), they leave it at the table & there’s no one hovering over you. I believe this is how they do it for everyone here, which is nice May 16th, 2023 12:24 am BenL9232 Sr.

You also get to eat as many cheddar bay biscuits as you want as well (I suggest you shouldn’t as it cant get filling on you. You can take these home whatever biscuits you have left) You have 5 different ways of shrimp, prepared you can have, but can only choose 2 and a side the first time. After that, once the server sees you are almost finished, they will let you choose any 1 at a time.
(approximately 10-15+ min wait). Taking home the leftover shrimp is YMMV, up to the server if they allow you to. What I did was when I took home the extra biscuits, I did stuff some leftover coconut and Walt’s shrimp in the paper bag lol, they don’t know I did that.
- The sharing of the endless shrimp between 2 people and 1 paying person, is an extreme YMMV, but in my opinion, I’m gonna say no, that it won’t work so well asking to do this (maybe if you have a young kid like 3-5 years old, then maybe), but not 2 adults.
- It’s just $20, whatever your other person is gonna eat is most likely gonna cost that much for 1 regular entree anyway.

- The rule seems to be you can only order 6 shrimps (1 serving) each time, and the server only comes around every 10 minutes.
- I came in Friday afternoon at 3:30 PM, when most tables are empty.
- I honestly would not call this AYCE, based on the amount of wait needed to get food.
- While the price at $20 is competitive, you can get actual AYCE for around 5 bucks more at other establishments.
You can’t even get refill on sides, only 1 serving of shrimp each time (~10 minutes). I came in seeing the hype on RFD, but is left very disappointed, and would not be coming back, most likely ever. How many shrimp are in endless shrimp?
Shrimp News: Hollis Johnson, a photographer for Business Insider, and Kate Taylor, a reporter at Business Insider, ate a total of 305 shrimp at Red Lobster’s Endless Shrimp promotion last year (2016). This year, 2017, they planned to top that total. Their report contains 24 pictures along with lots of chatter about every stage of their quest.
Here I’ve used four of Johnson’s photographs, along with excerpts from throughout their long report. They got philosophical here and there about their challenge, so I skipped that stuff and stuck to the passages that described the shrimp and their counting tallies. Their Story Last year, we left an innocent world thinking we would happily munch on crustaceans for a couple of hours; instead, we entered a murky, briny alternate existence where the shrimp never stops.
Three hundred and five shrimp later, we wearily emerged from Red Lobster on that fated September night in 2016 into the blinking lights of Times Square.
When we returned this year, our goals were set. Last year, Hollis ate 162 shrimp, and I downed 143. This year Hollis hoped to reach 175, and I was determined to reach 150—or die trying—for a total of 320, 15 more shrimp than 2016. Our waiter—the same waiter as a year before—was there with menus in hand and the familiar shrimp spiel on his tongue.
He told us that the Endless Shrimp deal includes five types of shrimp on the menu: linguine, hand-breaded, scampi—the classics—and two newcomers, Nashville Hot shrimp and Mediterranean grilled shrimp. Those in the know can also order Cape Cod Kettle Chip-Crusted Shrimp, Panko-Crusted Red Shrimp, Coconut Shrimp, Popcorn Shrimp and Garlic-Grilled Shrimp from a secret menu.
Shrimp count (0): We started with a new shrimp on the menu: the Mediterranean Grilled Shrimp. Sweet, buttery, briny and bountiful, it’s a welcome addition to the menu, a simple grilled variation with a buttery garlic butter dressing, accompanied with grilled tomatoes and chives. Another newcomer: Cape Cod Kettle Chip-Crusted Shrimp. This tongue twister of a secret menu item is good, but with a caveat. The crunch of the chip breading shines through—each bite tastes like Cape Cod chips. These golden morsels will wipe you out if you have more than a dozen, and we’re aiming for much more than that. With the first round under our belts, we were off to a solid start. Despite our apprehensions, we had somewhat regained our footing mentally. The taste of shrimp was as alive as it ever was in our minds and hearts. Shrimp Count (34): Our strategy had never been clearer: avoid breading when possible. Despite how delicious the Cape Cod Kettle Chip shrimp is, we had to lay off those briny beauties after our first dish. Instead, we feasted upon many plates of scampi, Mediterranean Grilled Shrimp and the classically grilled shrimp from the secret menu. Other dishes we avoided: the equally dangerous Panko-Crusted Shrimp, the classic fried shrimp and of course the infamous Shrimp Linguine—a sauce-laden belly stuffer. Shrimp Count (100): We found ourselves leaning heavily on the Mediterranean Grilled Shrimp. This new menu addition seems perfectly calibrated for the needs of Endless Shrimpers. It’s light and fresh, but stands strong in the battle against flavor fatigue—one of the greatest foes of any dedicated shrimp marathoner. Nashville Hot shrimp, the other new shrimp item, however, was less suited for the occasion. It attempts to tap into the hip factor of a trendy regional dish: Nashville Hot, a beloved and storied chicken style in Nashville, Tennessee. Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) fast-food restaurants recently added their take on this flavor to their menu with much success, which might explain Red Lobster’s incongruous embrace of the flavor. While Nashville Hot—a cayenne pepper infused mix of spicy and sweet seasonings—works beautifully with chicken, it’s not a natural pairing for shrimp. It overwhelms the delicate shrimp with overt spice and thick breading. The flavor is fine, but it’s meant for chicken—and during an Endless Shrimpscapade, it just weighs you down. As we neared 100 shrimp individually, our stomachs began to recognize what we were doing to them. “I’ve feel like I’ve eaten.some shrimp,” I said. But on we go. If we were paying by the shrimp, we’d probably be full at around 100 shrimp between us. Were we casually in this for the fun of it, perhaps we’d top out at 200. But we were here to win, and that meant 325 shrimp needed to be eaten. The very aspect of the challenge forced us onward—we had our dignities to protect. Shrimp Count (172): We had decided early on to hold back on ordering perhaps the best shrimp dish in Red Lobster’s arsenal until we hit 100 shrimp each. And at last, the time for Coconut Shrimp had come. We needed a distinct flavor and a tiny shrimp, and Coconut Shrimp delivers on both fronts. The little coconut-breaded gems are sweet without being cloying and come with a piña colada sauce that brings one instantly to the sandy shores of Puerto Rico. Around this time, we started ordering Popcorn Shrimp—the flavor isn’t as distinct, but these small and mighty shrimp morsels are easy to eat and helped our numbers. Shrimp count (209): Endless Shrimp is an incredibly popular promotion, but it’s undeniable that casually eating a normal shrimp dinner is much more comfortable than gulping down over 300 shrimp at a sitting. Shrimp Count (297): Under the salty fog of Shrimp Madness, we crossed the threshold of 300 shrimp and marched on towards our ultimate goal. We passed last year’s heights with little fanfare; we had only the magic number of 325 shrimp in our sights. Shrimp count (319): Finally, we reached the promised shrimp. Hollis flipped his scoreboard with pride and solemnity to his personal goal: 175 shrimp. And with that, he could not eat anymore. At the end, it seemed a mental game more than anything—had the goal been higher, perhaps more shrimp could’ve been eaten. But once the threshold was crossed, the satisfaction alone curbed both appetite and ambition. The boulder had been pushed to the top, and now it must be pushed back up again next year. And we’ll be back next year to do it all over again. Video: For a one-minute, time-lapse video of the 7.5-hour, shrimp-eating marathon, Click Here, Sources: 1, Eater.com.
