Is Chick-fil-A more popular than KFC?

p”> @chickfila on Instagram Chick-fil-A has surpassed KFC as the top chicken fast food chain. The fast food chain now controls the most market share in the chicken restaurant market, according to a recent report by Janney Capital Markets. “Chick-fil-A’s ability to grab market share within the U.S.

limited-service chicken category has been legendary,” writes Janney analyst Mark Kalinowski. In 1999, KFC controlled 40% of the market, while Chick-fil-A had just 9%. Today, Chick-fil-A is the “category leader,” with a 26% share compared with KFC’s 22%. The company also outsells KFC. Chick-fil-A’s sales in 2013 passed $5 billion, compared with KFC’s $4.2 billion, Venessa Wong at Bloomberg Businessweek reported earlier this year.

Chick-fil-A has about 1,775 U.S. stores, while KFC has 4,491. Despite a smaller footprint, Chick-fil-A’s average sales are more than triple those of its larger competitor, Wong wrote. Chick-fil-A achieves these results despite being closed on Sundays for religious reasons.

Here are a few reasons for Chick-fil-A’s success.1. Breakfast business. Chick-fil-A has a popular breakfast menu that helped elevate sales by 3.6% last year. This is crucial at a time when demand for breakfast is at an all-time high. While KFC also offers breakfast, sales sunk 2% at its locations.2. Differentiated menu.

Chick-fil-A has a menu that is different enough to set it apart from fast food competitors. Popular items include its signature chicken sandwich and waffle fries. However, Chick-fil-A also offers ice cream, milkshakes, and wraps. Long known as a carry-out dinner option, KFC has struggled to find its footing in the fast food space.3. Janney Capital Markets

What is Gen Z’s favorite restaurant?

Published October 24, 2022 What Time Does Chick-Fil-A Serve Lunch On Saturday article A Chick-fil-A restaurant is seen on July 05, 2022 in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Brandon Bell/Getty Images) ATLANTA – When it comes to fast food restaurants, Gen Z definitely has a favorite. A recent survey from Piper Sandler ranked Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A as Gen Z’s favorite restaurant.

What is Gen Z’s favorite fast food?

Gen Z eats fast food like no other generation. From a love for spicy food to constant snacking, these are 8 traits that define their dining habits. Westend61/Getty Images visualspace/Getty Images

  • Gen Zers,, and differently to other generations.
  • They even eat differently, too.
  • They love spicy food, tend to dine in big groups, and are pulled in by influencer marketing, execs at quick-service restaurant chains like Chipotle, Subway, Wendy’s, and El Pollo Loco told Insider.

“I think it’s really important to recognize that Gen Z is emerging,” Laura Dickey, CEO of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, said. “They are there, they do have disposable income, they’re a really important audience, and they are distinctly different than millennials and Gen X.” The execs broke down six of the biggest traits defining Gen Z’s dining habits. ViewApart/Getty Images Though Gen Zs are still young – they’re generally defined as people born between 1997 and 2012 – the older members of this generation have full-time jobs. With this comes spending power, and a need to budget. “As more and more Gen Zs enter the workforce, the generation’s spending power is on the rise, but currently they still lean more towards affordable options in restaurants than all other generations,” Fabiola Del Rio, VP of integrated marketing communications at Panda Express, said.

  1. “I don’t think that they’re worried about money,” Abby Taylor, cofounder and CMO of Playa Bowls, which sells fruit bowls and smoothies, said.
  2. Stephanie Perdue, Chipotle’s VP of brand marketing, said that because Gen Zers are less likely to have financial responsibilities such as mortgages and children, they spend more money when they eat out, including adding extras such as guacamole and queso to their dishes.
  3. Perdue added that Gen Zers come to Chipotle more frequently than other age groups, but that their check sizes are smaller because they’re typically only paying for their own meal.

Westend61/Getty Images It’s no surprise that a generation of digital natives loves getting takeout. Some chains are redesigning their restaurants to adapt to the rise in off-premise consumption, which was accelerated by the pandemic.,, and, “I think speed and convenience are paramount to Gen Z.

They want things now, meaning whatever easiest order mode they can get their food as quickly as possible, that’s usually what they’re doing,” Andy Rebhun, CMO of El Pollo Loco, said. Playa Bowls’ Taylor said that even in big cities like New York City where third-party delivery fees are high, Gen Z is still happy to pay extra to get their food delivered “when they want it.” Because the generation is generally much quicker at adapting to new technology, it’s much more likely to use Subway’s app, too, according to Travis Lowe, the company’s VP of consumer and product insights.

They’re also more likely to order for pickup and collection. “They want very quick, simple, easy, frictionless online ordering, but they will come in in groups to pick it up as much as they will have it delivered,” Dickey said. But this doesn’t mean that Gen Z never dines out.

Instead, they’re more likely to eat in-restaurant as a social occasion with a group of friends, the execs said. “I think that’s something that’s definitely changed after the pandemic just due to people being a little bit isolated and people really wanting to have that moment of connection, through food,” Rebhun said.

Shareable dishes are particularly popular among Gen Zers, a Denny’s spokesperson said. “Today, hanging out at a restaurant rivals millennials’ penchant for hanging out at the mall as teens,” analysts wrote in a report. “They are social diners,” Dickey agreed. SolStock/Getty Images Young diners don’t tend to eat at regular times, though. Gen Zers and young millennials are in “life stages where they snack more than eat meals,” Todd Roe, senior director of consumer insights at Wendy’s, said. “I would say with Gen Z we don’t really see a pattern per se,” El Pollo Loco’s Rebhun said.

“It’s usually: ‘When it’s most convenient for me.’ They will eat whenever they can fit it into their schedule.” Gen Z also tends to spend longer at the table, he added. “Sometimes people would normally multitask, but we definitely see those individuals really trying to take that time and eat,” he said.

The Denny’s spokesperson said Gen Zers are most likely to visit its restaurants late at night, making up one in every three guests during that part of the day. Dickey, in contrast, said that Gen Zers were more likely to eat an early dinner at Dickey’s at around 5 or 6 p.m., which she said was more similar to boomers than to millennials or Gen Xers. Peter Cade/Getty Images Gen Z has a reputation of being, Playa Bowls’ Taylor said that though among Gen Zers there was an attitude of “I want what I want now,” they’re still patient and compassionate towards workers. Dickey said that Dickey’s got “very few complaints” from Gen Zers.

“That is much more likely to be an older generation guest.” She added that Gen Zers were more likely to share positive experiences about the brand online, including photos of their food, group selfies, and videos of them unboxing orders across Instagram and TikTok. “I think if there’s something that goes really well, they’ll be the first to highlight it and try to get people to jump on the bandwagon,” Rebhun said.

“They’re also those who you wanna respond to very quickly if something doesn’t go well.” d3sign/Getty Images

  • Gen Z diners like their food to be “Instagrammable,” the execs said.
  • “It is very important for them that they eat with their phone,” Dickey said.
  • Restaurant chains are making sure both their meals and restaurant interiors so that younger generations post about their visits online.

But as well as organic content, restaurants are paying influencers to, It’s paying off, they say. Rebhun said that El Pollo Loco’s work with influencers “without a doubt” drove customers to the brand. He said that when the chain launched its shredded beef birria in spring 2022, it heavily promoted the dish on social media and got influencers to share it on TikTok.

“That was the day where the world changed for us,” Rebhun said. “And pretty much overnight our shredded beef birria sales multiplied by eight times. I truly believe it was TikTok and our passionate fan base that really helped carry that product for us.” Rebhun said that El Pollo Loco only worked with influencers who are “fans of the brand” and wouldn’t hop between different restaurants.

The chain puts most of its social-media funds behind Instagram and TikTok campaigns, he said. “Facebook tends to have the most users in terms of followers because I think that platform has been around the longest but I’d say overall in terms of where we get the most engagement and where we see the most growth is Instagram and TikTok,” he said.

Wendy’s CMO Carl Loredo told Insider that the chain gets a lot of engagement through back-and-forth interactions on X, formerly known as Twitter. The company is also posting content on Meta’s new platform Threads, but “we don’t know exactly what the rules are yet,” he said. Dickey said that Dickey’s work with influencers – in particular those involved with food and sport – was “directly in response to millennial and Gen Z.” “Any lingering traditional media that we do,” like TV commercials, radio spots, and out-of-home ads, is “all for boomers and Gen X,” she added.

In the UK,, Execs told Insider it was “leveraging youth culture,” including music, sport, influencers, and TikTok, to create an image of a “Gen Z-esque aspirational lifestyle.” Chipotle’s Perdue, meanwhile, said that Gen Zers “enjoy trying TikTok menu hacks and influencing food culture,” prompting the chain to start selling the Fajita Quesadilla inspired by reviews posted on TikTok by influencers Alexis Frost and Keith Lee. Manu Vega/Getty Images Gen Z prefers different flavors to other generations. In particular,, “Spice levels generally heat up with younger generations,” Panda Express’ Del Rio said, making dishes such as its Kung Pao Chicken and Sizzling Shrimp popular among Gen Zers.

  • Chipotle’s Perdue said that Gen Z ordered more of its Queso Blanco, a cheese dip with peppers for a spicy kick, than other generations, while Roe told Insider that Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Nuggets were especially popular among Gen Zers.
  • Subway is offering more spicy options to appeal to Gen Zers, Lowe said.

Dickey’s has also tweaked its menu in response to younger diners. “They,” Dickey said. “So while we’ve always had it on the menu, it hasn’t always been a feature focus. We’ve also added smoked chicken wings, and that was a direct response to Gen Z.” In a 2022, 13% of 1,000 US Gen Z respondents said that chicken was their favorite food, ahead of steak, burgers, sushi, and fries and behind only pizza. eclipse_images/Getty Images Gen Z likes to with customizable dishes as well as trying things that seem novel or exclusive. “Younger generations in general value new flavors and novelty menu items, particularly food they may not make at home,” Panda Express’ Del Rio said.

She said this had included the chain’s plant-based Orange Chicken, Orange Chicken Sandwich, and Panda Bing wrap. Data from Morning Consult shows that Gen Z is considerably more likely than other generations to try new foods and beverages. “As members of the most diverse generation of Americans, with more channels of exposure to global trends and more ways to purchase increasingly niche products, Gen Zers’ penchant for trying new foods and beverages, whether it’s through buzzworthy mashups or novel functional benefits, seems likely to last a lifetime,” Morning Consult’s Emily Moquin wrote in the report.

Taylor said that at Gen Z customers embraced the customizable nature of Playa Bowls’ dishes. A core part of Starbucks’ strategy is, and, Wingstop UK execs told Insider that its by choosing their wing flavors and sauces. Health is also an important consideration, the execs said.

  • Gen Z “grew up with a deeper understanding of nutrition,” Chipotle’s Perdue said.
  • They prioritize their health.
  • They put that first,” Playa Bowls’ Taylor said.
  • They’re willing to spend the money to get quality ingredients They definitely are in tune with what they’re putting in their bodies.” : Gen Z eats fast food like no other generation.

Is Chick-fil-A or Starbucks more popular?

MIAMI, FLORIDA – FEBRUARY 09: People visit a Chipotle restaurant on February 09, 2022 in Miami,, Florida. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images) Getty Images Piper Sandler’s 44 th semi-annual Taking Stock With Teens survey didn’t yield many surprises in terms of restaurant preferences.

  • The survey, which highlights discretionary spending trends and brand preferences of those averaging 15.8 years old, shows that Chick-fil-A remains the No.1 restaurant for the demographic, with 18% share.
  • It is followed closely by Starbucks SBUX at 17% and Chipotle at 13%.
  • Chick-fil-A and Starbucks are consistent favorites for teens, according to the survey, which is notable as the spending power of Gen Z continues to increase.

A Bloomberg report from 2021 shows this demographic has about $360 billion in disposable income, or more than double what was estimated three years ago. The survey doesn’t specify why teens gravitate toward these brands, but Chick-fil-A’s combination of service, food quality and portability that has generated high customer satisfaction scores across demographics for years.

Starbucks has a wildly popular loyalty program with over 27 million active members, as well as a strong digital presence in general that likely appeals to Gen Z. Its specialty limited-time offers, like the Unicorn Frappuccino, also provide compelling fodder for social media. Speaking of digital, Chipotle is a juggernaut in the space, likely attracting younger consumers with its TikTok content, its loyalty program featuring gamification components, and its growing presence in the metaverse,

Chipotle’s TikTok page has 2 million followers (behind just McDonald’s 2.3 million in the industry) and that is a big deal for teens. According to the Piper Sandler survey, TikTok widened its lead as the favorite social platform, with 38% of share, while Snapchat is No.2 at 30% and Instagram is No.3 at 20%.

TikTok widened its lead versus Snapchat as the favorite teen app, with Instagram remaining in third. However, Instagram continues to lead in monthly usage. On average, teens spent 4.4 hours on social media,” Edward Yruma, senior research analyst, said in a statement. The metaverse piece is also becoming more critical to reach younger consumers.

Sixty percent of users in the digital space are Gen Z, and the generation spends approximately eight or more hours a day online, Interestingly, the survey notes that Gen Z is a “conscious generation,” concerned about topics such as the environment, abortion, racial equality and inflation.

Most major restaurant companies have committed additional resources to environmental causes, but few have jumped into the debate over abortion. Starbucks, however, was the first national chain to announce it would reimburse abortion-related travel for employees enrolled in its health plan. If the survey provides any sort of mirror ball predictions, then the plant-based meat market may be in a precarious situation.

Teens say they plan to eat less plant-based meat, according to Piper Sandler. Of the 14% of teens that do consume plant-based meat, 23% plan to eat less, which is up from 17% in the fall 2021 survey. The final foodservice takeaway from this survey is that teen spending has grown throughout the past several years and continues to do so.

Is Chick-fil-A cheaper than Mcdonalds?

Chick-fil-A vs McDonald’s, Reporter November 18, 2020 As we all know, Chick-fil-A is a nationwide favorite among fast-food restaurants. However, McDonald’s is also a fast food giant in terms of the number of customers. These two fast-food restaurants are very popular and also very different.

Chick-fil-A is known for its chicken, but also their slightly higher prices. Whilst, on the other hand, McDonald’s is well known for its very low prices, especially when it comes to drink size prices and the dollar menu variety. Nuggets Chick-fil-A is known for their amazing tasting nuggets. McDonald’s also has chicken nuggets; however, they do not compare in quality to Chick-fil-A’s nuggets.

McDonald’s sells chicken nuggets at a price of around 4 cents higher than Chick-fil-A, McDonald’s 10 count is about $4.49 whereas Chick-fil-A’s 12 count is around $4.45. So when it comes to which restaurant has the best nuggets for the best price, Chick-fil-A wins every time.

  1. Fries McDonald’s is well known for their fries as well as Chick-fil-A.
  2. Chick-fil-A sells waffle fries while on the other hand McDonald’s sells thinner, crispier, fries.
  3. A McDonald’s large fry costs around $1.89 which is still higher than what Chick-fil-A prices their fries.
  4. A Chick-fil-A large fry costs around $1.85.

I would choose either one, as the fries from both fast-food restaurants are very good. Sauce Chick-fil-A and McDonald’s both share many similar sauces but also have several different sauces. McDonald’s has a Big Mac sauce that anyone can ask for on the side, and Chick-fil-A has their Chick-fil-A sauce that is very popular.

  1. Comparing their BBQ sauce and Ranch sauce I would have to say that Chick-fil-A has the better of the two different sauces.
  2. Also, Chick-fil-A has a Polynesian sauce that is very good.
  3. Frozen Treats Chick-fil-A has some popular frozen drinks such as the Frosted lemonade or the Cookies and Cream Milkshake.

McDonald’s also has many popular frozen drinks such as the McFlurry with OREOS or the Hot Caramel Sundae. McDonald’s has the lowest prices for shakes when compared to Chick-fil-A. A large McDonald’s Shake is $2.99 while a large Chick-fil-A Shake is $3.15.

Chicken Sandwich vs Burger Chick-fil-A encourages people to “Eat mor Chikin;” therefore, they do not serve any beef. McDonald’s serves many different types of burgers such as the Big Mac or a Quarter Pounder Cheese Burger. McDonald’s also serves chicken sandwiches, for example, the well known McChicken.

When it comes to variety McDonald’s definitely wins. Overall Price Chick-fil-A has slightly higher prices on certain items compared to McDonald’s. Chick-fil-A has slightly lower prices on nuggets and fries when compared to McDonald’s. McDonald’s, however, offers a dollar menu that allows customers to get a wide variety of food for around one dollar per item.

So when it comes to the overall price, McDonald’s is the better choice. Drive-thru and service Chick-fil-A on Riverside in Danville has a two-lane drive-thru that connects and leads everyone around to where they pick up their food. They also have people outside who walk around and take your order in person, much more like a curbside take away than a drive-thru.

So when compared to McDonald’s drive-thru where there is only one lane and a speaker to talk into, Chick-fil-A is way better. Plus who can forget the classic “My pleasure” that Chick-fil-A workers use to display their superior customer service. Price For me, I frequently go to Chick-fil-A to get lunch or just something to eat before work.

How does Chick-fil-A go so fast?

What Time Does Chick-Fil-A Serve Lunch On Saturday Inside Chick-fil-A Behind-the-scenes of how we keep you moving, not waiting, at the drive-thru It’s a familiar scene. You’re running your daily errands, and hunger strikes. You don’t have time to spare, so you hit up the Chick-fil-A drive-thru. When you arrive, the line is wrapped around the restaurant.

  1. But you still get in the line, because you know you’ll get your food in no time.
  2. It’s such a familiar phenomenon that this meme recently made its rounds on the internet, describing the experience in a way only the internet can: How do Chick-fil-a drive thrus be like this and still get you ur food hot in 3 minutes? pic.twitter.com/EyqgLYvMUh — FREDDY (@FreddyAmazin) April 7, 2017 So how do Chick-fil-A drive-thrus move so quickly? According to Jared Solid, who leads Chick-fil-A’s drive-thru innovation, “The drive-thru experience is all a game of seconds.

It’s about putting the right people in the right places to shave off unnecessary time.” Though the drive-thru may seem like one continuous experience to customers, Solid and his team think about it in multiple stages, looking for innovation every step of the way. One of the ways they do this is by building full-scale mockups at the Chick-fil-A Headquarters in Atlanta and driving real cars through them (indoors). Seriously. This way, they can ensure the design and process is just right, even before testing ideas in live restaurants.

  1. How It Works With most Chick-fil-A restaurants serving well over 100 cars in the drive-thru during peak hours, Solid and his team know that placing orders is an integral part of the drive-thru experience.
  2. That’s why customers often see Chick-fil-A employees walking the drive-thru line armed with tablets.

The technology allows team members to go up to a customers’ window, take their order and relay it to the kitchen, all while maintaining one-on-one service. As the order-taker walks the line, another team member comes to the customers’ car to take payment, allowing cars to move through twice as fast as they do at a traditional speaker box drive-thru. “It’s a great way for us to get really high volumes of cars through the drive-thru extremely efficiently,” says Solid. “It’s also a way for us to give customers personalized service in a place they may not expect it.” Face-to-Face Face Ordering, like many drive-thru innovations, was first developed by Chick-fil-A franchised Operators and then refined by Solid and his team.

  • Long before we had the technology to support it, team members would write down customers’ orders in the drive-thru and call it in on cell phones,” says Solid.
  • The best ideas always come from our restaurant Operators and team members.” But drive-thru innovation doesn’t end with the technology team members use – it even extends to the uniforms they wear.

To ensure team members working in the drive-thru line are comfortable in any weather, Chick-fil-A has partnered with clothing brands that design military-spec cooling vests and moisture-wicking uniforms for the summer, thermal options for the winter and more.

  1. Solid and his team are also working on additional ways to keep team members protected from the elements throughout the year.
  2. Getting it Right Speed isn’t everything.
  3. Solid and his team know customers want accuracy as well.
  4. To ensure customers get what they ordered, team members also take detailed descriptions of cars while they’re placing orders.

“This way the kitchen knows what food orders to make first, and the cashier knows who to get payment from,” says Solid. When restaurants have two drive-thru lanes, the descriptions of cars help team members know exactly who should receive what food order at the window, regardless of the order in which cars merge. Thinking Ahead Even with the majority of Chick-fil-A’s customers already choosing the drive-thru, Solid believes this number will grow in coming years.

  • So, what does the drive-thru of the future look like? “I think the digital space will continue to play an important role in our drive-thru,” says Solid.
  • We will continue exploring innovative ways to intersect the digital and the physical world.” You can even download the Chick-fil-A One App and take your drive-thru experience to a whole new level.

Guests all across the country now have the ability to order their meals through the app and pick them up in the drive-thru instead of going into the restaurant. “We know our drive-thru can look daunting, but we work to maintain our guests’ trust,” says Solid.

Does Chick-fil-A have the most satisfied customers?

The popular chicken chain has been ranked No.1 in the ACSI survey 9 years in a row. According to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) Restaurant Study 2022-2023, customer satisfaction with full-service restaurants is up 1% to a score of 81 (on a scale of 0 to 100).

With this improvement, the industry moves back into first place in the Index, sharing the top with athletic shoes and soft drinks. Meanwhile, the fast food industry climbs 3% to 78. “This year we’re seeing customer satisfaction returning to pre-pandemic levels for full-service dining, while fast food outlets have rebounded to within a point of their 2019 score,” said Forrest Morgeson, assistant professor of marketing at Michigan State University and director of research emeritus at the ACSI.

“This good news is tempered, though, by increasing inflationary pressures, which are already slowing traffic. Sooner rather than later, the industry is going to feel the pinch, and price competition and value will matter.” Chick-fil-A leads the industry—and all restaurants—for the ninth straight year after climbing 2% to an ACSI score of 85.

However, while Chick-fil-A improves year over year, its lead dwindles as the next three chains on the list post gains of 4% or higher. Jimmy John’s takes over sole possession of second place after rising 6% to 84. The group of smaller fast food purveyors are not far behind, up 4% to 82, followed by KFC (up 4%) and Papa John’s (up 5%), at 81 and 80, respectively.

Chipotle (down 3% to 75) and Sonic (down 3% to 72) take the biggest hits among fast food restaurants, but the bottom spot belongs to Taco Bell and McDonald’s. The former slumps 1% to 71, while the Golden Arches, despite improving 1%, continues to be last with an ACSI score of 69.

  1. Outback Steakhouse moves into the top spot in the full-service restaurant category after surging 8% to an ACSI score of 83.
  2. It appears the rollout of handheld ordering tablets and new ovens and grills are already paying dividends as evidenced by improvements in order accuracy, food quality and food menu variety,” writes ACSI.

Two additional steakhouses—LongHorn Steakhouse and Texas Roadhouse—each climb 3% to meet Cracker Barrel (up 5%) in second place at 82 apiece. The latter introduced a new breakfast menu last summer, while also reaffirming its commitment to digital transformation with a new app.

Restaurant prices are up 8.8% over the last year, making it the first time since mid-2021 that eating out costs consumers more than eating in. And yet, perceived value is improved. Perceived value with full-service restaurants is up 3% overall, while quality gains 4%. ACSI points to Olive Garden, which has made it a point to keep menu price increases below the inflation rate.

Perceived value and quality with the restaurant each improved 5% as it inches closer to the industry averages in both metrics. Applebee’s, which actually raised menu prices, gains 7% in quality and 5% in value. The company’s value-based promotions and all-you-can-eat deals are particularly attractive to clientele who are “trading down” due to inflation but still looking for full-service experiences, according to ACSI.
