What Is Vecna’s Real Name? – Before he was a charred intra-dimensional boogeyman vaguely resembling Game of Thrones ‘ Night King, Vecna was a real person named Henry Creel, who found his way into the Hawkins National Laboratory after he murdered his family using his psychokinetic powers.

  1. Dr. Brenner and staff were able to keep him in check with an inhibitor chip, called Soteria, that was implanted into his neck and made him relatively harmless.

Is Vecna a girl or boy?

Character biography – Vecna was born as a human, centuries ago as a member of the untouchable caste in the Flan city of Fleeth on Oerth, He was initially trained by his mother, Mazzel, in the art of magic, before she was executed by the government of Fleeth for practicing witchcraft.

  • Vowing revenge, Vecna eventually assumed a mastery of the dark arts achieved by no mortal before or since.
  • Some say this achievement was due to direct tutelage by Mok’slyk the Serpent, believed to be the personification of arcane magic itself.
  • Nearly one thousand years after his birth, Vecna, now a lich and ruler of a great and terrible empire (in the Sheldomar Valley, centered near the modern-day Rushmoors ), laid siege to the city of Fleeth with an army of arcane spellcasters and undead.

Legend has it that Vecna was nearly slain in this battle by clerics channeling the power of Pholtus, the god of light. The clerics unleashed a great burst of light, which hit Vecna primarily on his left side. Vecna was rescued and brought to safety by one of his wizard generals, a cambion named Acererak (who would one day himself become a mighty demilich ).

Vecna eventually recovered. On the verge of conquering Fleeth, the officials of the city came before him to beg for mercy. They offered up the entire city and her wealth if only Vecna would spare the lives of her citizens. When Vecna was not satisfied, the officials offered their own lives. Vecna gave one of their number, Artau, and his family, over to his lieutenant, Kas, who spent the entire day torturing and murdering them before the other officials.

Still unsatisfied, Vecna slaughtered all within the city, and had their heads stacked before the officials, with those of their family members prominent. Vecna then granted his mercy, granting the officials leave to depart, and promising them his protection for the rest of their lives.

  • At his empire’s height, Vecna was betrayed and destroyed by his most trusted lieutenant, a vampire called Kas the Bloody-Handed, using a magical sword that Vecna himself had crafted for him, now known as the Sword of Kas,
  • Only his left hand and his eye survived the battle, perhaps because of the previous events in Fleeth.

Vecna did not stay gone forever, and rose as a demigod of magic and secrets in the world of Greyhawk, In 581 CY, his cult helped set events in motion that would have granted him the power of a greater god, but the plan was ultimately foiled. After these events, Vecna ended up imprisoned in the demiplane of Ravenloft, but broke free again later, emerging with the power of a greater god, after absorbing the power of Iuz,

He then broke free into the city of Sigil, where he came perilously close to rearranging all existence to his whims. (Vecna’s multiverse shattering campaign in Sigil is used as an in-universe way to explain the differences between the 2nd and 3rd editions of Dungeons & Dragons.) When Vecna was ejected from Sigil by a party of adventurers, Iuz was freed and Vecna returned to Oerth greatly reduced in power, though still a lesser god.

In the events of the Living Greyhawk campaign setting, Vecna’s machinations allowed him to reappear on the prime material plane and retake his place in the Oerth pantheon.

Is Vecna a zombie?

Who is Vecna, the new monster in Stranger Things Season 4? – Netflix Vecna is a major bad guy in Dungeons & Dragons, which Stranger Things relies heavily on for its monsters. According to the helpful folks over at the Dungeons & Dragons, Vecna was once a human king who became a lich (a powerful undead wizard).

  1. Over time, Vecna grew in power enough to ascend to godhood.
  2. Says Vecna was first introduced in 1976, and was first only shown in the canon as the mysterious source of two artifacts, a hand, which turned its user evil and gave them powers such as levitation, and an eye, which allowed a user to have supernatural hearing and the ability jump in and out of reality.

Among Vecna’s powers, he can paralyze others, alter reality, and control minds. Sounds like whatever we’re about to see in Season 4, El is going to have her work cut out for her. In a trailer for Season 4, we see a creepy humanoid creature never before seen in the Stranger Things universe.

  • In previous seasons, we had the Mind Flayer and the Demogorgon,
  • Since the Mind Flayer took up not one, but two seasons, it makes sense we’d have a new monster to terrorize the Hawkins kids.
  • The Stranger Things official Twitter confirmed Vecna is the season’s new villain.
  • This content is imported from twitter.

You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site. In a trailer breakdown with IGN ( ), the Duffer Brothers hinted that the Vecna is essentially their version of one of those big bad horror villains you always hear about.

  1. We wanted to introduce the idea right away that there is a major new threat.
  2. We’ve always wanted to do our whatever version of a Freddy Krueger, or a Pinhead, or a Pennywise,” they said.
  3. Because those were the monsters the villains supernatural villains that terrified us the most when we growing up.” They added that they’ve wanted to do a villain like this since Season 2, but it just took a while for them to organically get there within the show.

When the brothers spoke with Deadline, they also mentioned viewers would finally get to see the root of all those supernatural happenings in Hawkins. It’s possible the Vecna could be a clue to the real reason there’s the Upside Down, or why any of this is happening in a quiet surburban town in Indiana. Who is inside Vecna?

How did Vecna get to the Upside Down? – One/Henry Creel asks Eleven to join him after explaining his point of view and his goal to restore balance to the world by wiping out humanity. However, El would never go for that, as she has lived as a human and wants to protect the world. What Movies Does Jamie Campbell Bower Play In (Image credit: Courtesy of Netflix) While falling into the dark dimension, One/Henry is struck by lightning, disfiguring him. He’s also weakened, and it takes him a while to fully recover. Sometime between being banished ahead of the events of Stranger Things around 1983, and reemerging in Hawkins in January 1986, he also grows extra appendages à la the spiders he respects.

Who plays the human in Vecna?

Non-familial – Though Dr. Brenner promised to help Henry, the boy saw nothing redeemable in the doctor, believing him to have only his own interests at heart. Henry felt controlled and held back as a test subject and sought to fight against Brenner’s authority.

This, however, led to Brenner suppressing Henry’s powers with Soteria and removing him from the testing group. He kept him on as an orderly so that he could monitor his actions and would occasionally resort to torture to keep him in control. Eventually, Henry was freed of Brenner’s control through the help of a young Eleven and massacred the majority of his fellow test subjects before knocking Brenner unconscious.

Henry was ultimately defeated by Eleven and teleported to an unknown parallel dimension, causing Brenner to grow even more interested in Eleven’s capabilities. Though resentful of Henry for murdering his other test subjects, Brenner felt guilty and believed to have failed to “help” his first test subject, which drove him to test Eleven’s abilities through various experiments when in reality he was actually concerned with locating Henry in the “darkness.” It was during one of these experiments that Eleven accidentally opened a gate between Hawkins and the other dimension eventually known as “the Upside Down,” allowing Henry, later known by Eleven and her friends as Vecna, to send the creatures of the Upside Down under his control to wreck havoc on Hawkins.

Henry held the younger test subjects, particularly Two and his friend group ( Three, Four, and Five ), in contempt, with the sole exception of Eleven, He despised the way her peers had ostracized her, which he believed was due to their own fears and impotence. Henry kept his spite to himself; however, after his powers were restored in 1979, he immediately committed a massacre, killing all the other test subjects except Eleven.

For several years, Henry worked as an orderly in Hawkins Laboratory under the orders of Martin Brenner and developed a particular liking to Eleven, sympathizing with her for being frequently bullied by her peers. Unbeknownst to Eleven and her fellow test subjects, Henry was actually test subject One and the first of their kind, with Brenner having kept his existence from the younger test subjects a secret.

Henry gave Eleven the advice of tapping into her darkest memories and channel her rage and grief to augment her powers, an advice that allowed her to beat Two in a combat-based exercise. Despite generally respecting Eleven, Henry nevertheless had no qualms with manipulating her into removing the chip that suppressed his powers.

Once his powers were restored, Henry massacred the other children upon regaining his abilities, claiming he did it to save Eleven when he only did because he saw the other subjects as being weak. However, Eleven was disgusted and horrified by Henry’s actions, with their relationship quickly becoming antagonistic; Henry and Eleven became engaged in psychokinetic combat, with Eleven using her powers to banish Henry to an alternate dimension,

  • From this point forward, the transformed Henry treated Eleven as his sworn enemy, continually seeking to destroy her and her friends.
  • The Mind Flayer was first discovered by Henry Creel after Eleven banished him to the Upside Down.
  • He described it as “the most extraordinary thing of all” that he found there.

Using his psychic powers, Henry gave the Mind Flayer its gigantic, spider-like form and established a psychic connection with the entity, forming a kind of symbiotic relationship. Acting through the Mind Flayer, Henry attempted to eradicate humanity both in 1984 and 1985.

  1. In both instances, Eleven and her allies ultimately thwarted their plans.
  2. Since all the creatures within the Upside Down share a hive mind, the Demogorgons are all connected to Henry through this hive mind, and act according to his bidding.
  3. Vecna played an indirect role in Will’s kidnapping at the hands of the Demogorgon before possessing him via the Mind Flayer.

Through the Mind Flayer, Vecna tried to destroy Will, Eleven and their loved ones in 1984 and 1985, only for the protagonists to thwart their plans, in part thanks to Will’s connection to the Upside Down’s unique hive mind, which enabled him to anticipate when the Mind Flayer would attack.

  • It was not until spring 1986 that Will was finally informed of Vecna’s existence and he tried to help Eleven fight him by building a makeshift sensory deprivation tank, enhancing her abilities to a point so she could fight the creature from their current location in Nevada.
  • Upon returning to Hawkins, Will explained to Mike that he originally believed it was the Mind Flayer to have connected him to the Upside Down, but he finally understood that Vecna had been behind the attacks and trauma they and their friends had endured these last years, with the Mind Flayer and the other creatures of the alternate dimension under his control.

Will could sense how badly Vecna had been injured by Nancy, Steve and Robin and feel his rage and sheer determination to eradicate all of humanity, which led Will to declare that they needed to destroy Vecna for the sake of the residents of Hawkins and the rest of the world.

When a fragment of the Mind Flayer was reawakened from its dormant state by the Soviets opening a gate to the Upside Down in Hawkins, Vecna had the Mind Flayer possess Billy and turned him into his loyal minion; Billy was used to kidnap dozens of Hawkins civillians, who were sacrificed in favor of creating a proxy form for the Mind Flayer, which would allow Vecna to eradicate humanity.

However, Eleven managed to reawaken Billy’s humanity, and he was mortally wounded by the Mind Flayer’s proxy form during his attempts to protect Eleven from it. Months later, Vecna was revealed to be in control of the Upside Down, the Mind Flayer and all the other creatures connected to the hive mind, making him responsible for the deaths of many Hawkins citizens, including Billy.

  1. In his plan to weaken the barrier between the human world and the Upside Down, Vecna targeted Billy’s stepsister Max Mayfield, who was left with depression and survivor’s guilt as a result of witnessing Billy’s gruesome death.
  2. After possessing and cornering Max, Vecna mocked her and stated that while she was braver than Billy, she was ultimately weak and fragile, and nothing could stop him from “breaking” her.

Despite her popularity in Hawkins High as the captain of the cheerleading team, Chrissy became the first victim of Vecna’s curse. She secretly suffered from bulimia and her mother was a controlling woman who abused her physically and emotionally, causing Vecna to use these secrets to slowly drive Chrissy to a breaking point through horrifying illusions.

  • After a week of torment and desperate for a cure, Chrissy met with Eddie Munson to acquire some drugs but Vecna placed her under his spell and chased her through an illusion of her home until she reached a dead end.
  • He asked her to not be afraid and promised to make her suffering “end” once and for all, which ended up with him making Chrissy’s real body levitate in the air before snapping all of her limbs and crushing her eyes in front of a horrified Eddie.

Chrissy’s murder led to the formation of Vecna’s first gate, part of his plan to merge both worlds. Fred initially looked like a smart and brilliant teenager with an interest in becoming a reporter but soon enough, he became Vecna’s second target. The creature forced the boy to experience paranormal hallucinations of the world around him, having a police officer and several people in a funeral calling him a murderer for inadvertently causing the death of one of his friends in a car crash.

  • Eventually, Vecna lured Fred into the road where said crash took place and executed him, allowing his second gate to form in the pavement.
  • Max was the former stepsister of the Flayed’s leader, Billy Hargrove, and Vecna chose her as his final target as a result of her tremendous guilt for being unable to save Billy from being killed by the Mind Flayer.

Vecna tormented Max with hallucinations of both her mother and Billy and managed to trap her in his grasp but Max’s friends used her favorite music to give her an anchor back to the real world, allowing Max to find the strength to break free and escape back to reality.

  • When Vecna revealed his plan to invade the human world via the curse gates, Max demonstrated courage when she volunteered to bait Vecna into possessing her again.
  • Unfortunately, Vecna managed to corner Max and while he appeared to show a small degree of respect as he complemented her for her bravery, he ultimately deemed her weak like Billy, her friends and the rest of mankind.

Vecna wounded Max, snapping most of her limbs; despite Eleven’s last minute interference, Max succumbed to her injuries, and her heart stopped; this triggered the creation of his final curse gate, which in turn merged with the other gates to form a gigantic rift between worlds.

However, since Max’s body was not totally beyond disrepair, Eleven successfully restarted Max’s heart and revived her, albeit in a comatose and vulnerable state. Patrick became Vecna’s third target as part of his plan to merge the Upside Down with Hawkins and the rest of the world, with the boy having been chosen as a result of his fights with his parents, who berated and abused him physically for his alcoholism.

The creature caused Patrick to experience terrible headaches and a nosebleed. After failing to execute Max Mayfield, Vecna turned his attention back to Patrick, causing the boy to see the Creel family clock during Chrissy Cunningham’s funeral, which meant Patrick did not have much time left.

When Patrick and his teammate Jason Carver found and chased Eddie Munson through the Lover’s Lake, Vecna struck the killing blow and killed Patrick right before Jason and Eddie’s eyes. Patrick’s death created Vecna’s third gate in the bottom of the lake and convinced Jason more than ever that Eddie and his Hellfire Club were responsible for the murders.

Through the hive mind and one of the Demobats, Vecna became aware of Nancy, Steve, Robin and Eddie’s presence in the Upside Down. Before Nancy could return through the gate at Eddie’s trailer, Vecna chose to possess Nancy; he tormented her by reminding her of her indirect role in Barbara Holland ‘s death.

  1. His voice resonating all around her in the mindscape, Vecna told Nancy he knew she had been looking for him, and taunted her for being “so close to the truth”.
  2. He proceeded to reveal his secret origins through a series of visions, discombulating Nancy as she lived through scattershot points from Henry’s past.

After cornering Nancy, he asked her to relay to Eleven what he was about to show her: an apocalyptic vision of Hawkins being ripped apart by four gates; “downtown on fire”; hordes of monsters, including “a giant creature with a gaping mouth”; the deaths of her family members, Mike, Holly and Karen.

And I had just heard this joke about a fairy—like, the reason why the fairy sits on top of the Christmas tree, and it’s a really, like, dirty joke, because it’s about the Christmas tree up somebody’s bottom. And I told this joke in the audition, and there was again, this sort of, like. air of just like silence after I said it.

And I was like, ‘Well. fucked that up.'” Despite that early audition not working out, Bower eventually found his way into the Harry Potter franchise, appearing in both Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald as a younger version of Gellert Grindelwald.

How old is Vecna?

Vecna’s shocking identity reveal in Stranger Things season 4 answered important questions regarding his character, but does his age add up? What Movies Does Jamie Campbell Bower Play In Stranger Things season 4 introduces its scariest villain yet, Vecna, leaving viewers with many questions regarding the character, including his age. Compared to other monsters on the show, such as the Demogorgon and the Mind Flyer, Vecna is especially terrifying because he’s more human and uses a far more calculated approach to tormenting his victims, using their traumas against them.

  1. As it progresses, season 4 reveals the truth behind Vecna’s identity and motives, uncovering a tangled history deeply woven into the town of Hawkins.
  2. The show wastes no time developing Vecna’s character, with his threatening demeanor looming over the kids of Hawkins from the first episode of Stranger Things season 4.

While the first part of the season takes various twists and turns, leading to an array of speculations about who Vecna truly is, the truth is not revealed entirely until the final episode of season 4, volume 1. Viewers learn that not only was Vecna the young boy Henry Creel, but he is also Number One (001), the first child to ever be experimented on at Hawkins Lab.

As Dustin theorizes at the beginning of season 4, the Upside Down has existed for thousands of years, which would mean that Vecna isn’t the predominant evil that exists in the alternate dimension, his age potentially being closer to the adults of the show instead. Provided he actually ages in the Upside Down, Vecna could be in his late 30s in 1986, the year that Stranger Things season 4, volume 1 takes place.

Vecna became a monster seven years prior, when Eleven defeated the adult Henry Creel, a.k.a. Number One, at Hawkins Lab and he became banished to the Upside Down. If he hasn’t technically aged since then, he would still be the same age as he was in 1979.

Why is Vecna’s hand so big?

10. Vecna’s Hand – Season 4’s main villain Vecna contains a multitude of easter eggs. To start, he has a giant, claw-like left hand. This is a reference to the D&D character Vecna, for whom this Vecna is named; the D&D Vecna has a monstrous hand infused with dark magic.

Could Eleven be Vecna’s daughter?

VICTOR CREEL IS ELEVEN’S FATHER – Yes, you read that right! The first episode in Volume 2 is called Papa, and we hope it will give us more insight into Eleven and Victor Creel’s journey in the Hawkins Lab. Who took Vecna’s eye?

Other interesting information about Vecna’s eyes – The Duffer Brothers reference the game Dungeons & Dragons heavily throughout the series. In fact, one could argue that the concept of D&D drives a heavy portion of the show’s plotline. The idea of Vecna is no different.

  • Vecna in Stranger Things was inspired by the villain in Dungeons & Dragons — a powerful, undead spellcaster, called a lich.
  • In the D&D realm, a defining feature of Vecna is that he’s missing his left hand and left eye.
  • This is because his trusted accomplice, Kas the Bloody-Handed, betrayed him and used the sword Vecna created himself to chop off his left hand and remove his left eye.

This ultimately destroyed Vecna. Though they’re clouded with cataracts, Vecna in Stranger Things has both of his eyes. For now, at least. Could Vecna’s fate in D&D be a foreshadowing of his demise in Stranger Things ? That will be left up to the Duffer Brothers and how closely they want to follow Dungeons & Dragons.

Are Lily Collins and Jamie Bower still friends?

Lily Collins’ September engagement to her fiancé, screenwriter and director Charlie McDowell, surprised and excited fans around the world. The announcement, coupled with the release of the hit Netflix show Emily In Paris, has plastered Collins’ name in the headlines for the foreseeable future (or, at least until the hype around the show dies down).

Some of her longtime fans, however happy they are with her success this year, are still curious about the status of her friendship with a certain former flame: English heartthrob Jamie Campbell Bower. Shippers have surely been scrutinizing the timeline of the former duo’s relationship, worried that Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower friendship status may reveal they’re not friends anymore.

Collins and Bower first met and started dating back in July 2012 on the set of their movie The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones. Although their onscreen chemistry couldn’t be ignored by fans, it wasn’t all smooth sailing from there. Collins and Bower would split for the first time in August 2013, just days before the movie’s release in theaters.

The duo commented on their split at the Los Angeles premiere for the film. “Lily and I are very, very close. Very close. Always have been, always will be,” Bower told E! News, Spoiler alert: they remained a little more than just friends. The up-and-down relationship status rollercoaster for Collins and Bower droned on in the years to come.

By May 2015, they were romantically linked again after Collins posted an Instagram photo of herself kissing Bower accompanied by the caption, “Life works in mysterious ways.” The friendly pair went on to become two of Hollywood’s biggest names at the time and a good-looking couple for Gen Z shippers to fawn over.

Their bond, while demonstrably strong enough to bring them back together, was scrutinized by the press in the years following their 2015 reunion. Collins and Bower’s relationship was described as “on/off” consistently by media outlets; the duo would break up, then be spotted commenting on each others’ posts on social media,

It was a round-robin romance, with constant rumors swirling and no solid endpoint in sight. In July 2018, nearly five years after they initially went public with their romance, the couple split for good. Daily Mail reported that Collins and Bower had split, with sources saying they would remain friends.

The question of whether or not they’re still friends after Collins moved on with McDowell remains for fans, however. Rune Hellestad – Corbis/Corbis Entertainment/Getty Images Well, the answer is murky. It appears the two unfollowed each other on Instagram at some point in the past few years, with little to no interaction online at all during that period.

Very few photos are available on Collins’ account of the duo (but that could be due, in part, to the fact she didn’t post many shots with Bower when they were dating to begin with ). In 2017, there was some pitter-patter amongst fans over Campbell and Bower’s interactions on IG, with one fan freaking out over a screenshot Bower posted listening to The 1975 song, “She’s American.” Since Collins is, in fact, American, it was enough to fuel shipping theories for a bit among their fans, but the publicly available trail of Collins and Bowers’ relationship would dry up from there.

  1. So, the answer as to whether these two former flames are still friends remains wishy-washy.
  2. The pair still don’t follow each other on social media, but social media isn’t everything.
  3. After all, Collins and Bower always reaffirmed that they would stay friends after each breakup.
  4. Still, the radio silence on their friendship status seems a bit more permanent post-2018.

It’s hard to imagine Lily Collins not being friendly with anyone, though, even a former flame. Emily Cooper, however, is a different story. Dominique Charriau/WireImage/Getty Images
