What is am and pm in time?
What do Am and Pm Stand For? – They are the Latin words used to refer to time. The meaning of AM and PM is ‘Ante Meridiem’ and ‘Post Meridiem’, which means before noon or midday. We associate P.M. with the afternoon and evening.P.M. is an abbreviated term for ‘Post Meridiem,’ which implies afternoon or after midday.
In a 12-hour clock, these are used as time indications centered around noon. So, is AM morning or night and pm day or night? We can answer this by looking at some times; 10 AM is in the morning, and 2 PM is 2 hours after noon. So, AM and PM can represent daytime.11 PM is one hour before midnight, and 1 AM is one hour after midnight.
So, AM and PM can be nighttime.

- These abbreviations should be used only with numerals ( e.g.9:00 a.m. or 9 a.m.
- Not nine a.m.).
- In Canada, these abbreviations are usually written in lower case, with periods and with no internal spacing.
- A non-breaking space should be used between the time and the abbreviation a.m.

Regular capitals ( A.M., P.M.) or small capitals ( A.M., P.M.) are acceptable alternatives in headlines, lists or tables written in upper case.

Never use a.m. or p.m. with the expression o’clock or with the words morning, afternoon, evening or night,
Sarah doesn’t answer the phone after ten o’clock ( not ten p.m. o’clock). The lecture began at 4:30 p.m. ( or 4:30 in the afternoon, but not 4:30 p.m. in the afternoon).
If the 24-hour clock is used, a.m. and p.m. are unnecessary and incorrect.
The next flight to Thunder Bay leaves at 14:45 ( or 2:45 p.m., not 14:45 p.m.).

Why is AM and PM used?
Early mechanical clocks showed all 24 hours, but over time, clockmakers found the 12-hour system simpler and cheaper. Of course, a.m. stands for ante meridiem, which is Latin for ‘before midday.’ And p.m. means post meridiem — ‘after midday.’

Is afternoon 12 am or PM?
Answer: 12 O’clock in the afternoon is pm. – Ante meridiem is generally referred to as AM, am, a.m., or A.M. Whereas PM, pm, p.m., or P.M. are typically abbreviated post meridiem.
Is 12 59 am morning or night?
Using the same thinking as for PM, we all know that 1:00AM is in the morning. One minute before this must be 12:59 and as the sun is definitely before the meridian (ante meridien), so it is 12:59 AM. So, the early hours of the morning are 12:01-12:59AM and midnight is therefore 12:00AM.

- ‘Is’ is used with third-person singular nouns and pronouns.
- It is used with the pronouns he, she, and it.
- It is used with proper nouns like Mary, Abdul, Taj Mahal, and Museum.

- She is talented.
- Sheela is singing.
- Sushil is playing.
- It is a non-living thing.
Why do people use am?
The only difference is that ‘am’ is used in informal conversations largely. If I say, ‘Am doing my work’, this comes out as an informal sentence where the subject is implied or hidden.
How do you write 10 am?
Lowercase with periods : 10 a.m., 10 p.m. Each of these—including ‘am’ and ‘pm’—is a legitimate choice.
Is it 9 00am or 9 00 am?
Periods – We’ll start with the issues of periods. AM and PM are common and everyone understands they are abbreviations. If you put a period after each letter, that’s a total of four characters. When writing a single-digit hour such as 9:00 a.m., that’s the same number of characters as the time itself and is too much real estate for the task at hand.
