Outside of its library of classic animated hits and its Star Wars and Marvel content, it has yet to find anything really in the middle, namely a bunch of family-friendly dramas, comedies and adventure series that all seem to end up failing.

• Nothing perhaps sums up this issue more than the recent National Treasure: Edge of History series, taking the name of the original National Treasure film series starring Nicholas Cage and quicklyerasing more or less everything people liked about it.
• While obviously the old cast is gone, the tone was wildly different.

Now it’s dead after one season, I know a lot of people literally had no idea this show existed at all. And those that did seemed to hate it. The show was panned by critics, a 38% on, and also audiences, a 49% instead, extremely low for an audience score which generally tends to skew much higher for projects like this.

But no one was biting. Rotten Tomatoes Poor Scores This is one of a whole lot of different series in a similar category that Disney has axed including, Turner and Hootch, Game Changers, The Mysterious Benedict Society, Diary of a Future President, Big Shot and The Might Ducks: Game Changers. The common thread here is mostly live action series that do not fall into the Marvel or Star Wars categories.

Though even those series have trouble establishing themselves as actual shows that will return year over year, as many serve as one-offs or lead-ins to larger movies. And certainly some fall flat on their face (looking at you, The Book of Boba Fett). Probably the most ambitious non-Star Wars, non-Marvel live action project Disney Plus has cooking is its revival of the Percy Jackson franchise, which boasts a large fanbase and some level of excitement to see it return.

1. That show already has run into tragedy with the death of Lance Reddick, who was cast as its new Zeus.
2. It remains to be seen how successful the show will be overall, or if it might be another National Treasure.
3. It’s true that all streaming services are undergoing at least some level of problems these days.

Netflix is dramatically overspending and has content bloat. HBO Max is now “Max” and has seen dozens of series killed off or stripped away as WB Discovery cuts costs. Disney has struggled to find unique hits on Disney Plus, and really hurt a lot of its theatrical business with ill-advised streaming only movie releases.

Disney Plus has ordered 10 episodes of a new TV series based on the popular “National Treasure” films. The show, a reimagining of the franchise, will include original producer Jerry Bruckheimer and writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, Directed by Mira Nair, the series will explore identity, community and patriotism through the eyes of Jess Morales, a 20-year-old DREAMer who sets off on an adventure to recover lost treasure and uncover her mysterious family history.

No official announcements have been made in regard to casting the series, but according to Bruckheimer, the show will keep the same concept as the movies while featuring a much younger cast. The Wibberleys serve as executive producers with Jerry Bruckheimer Television, with ABC Signature as the studio.

The show will also bring on senior-level writers to join the Wibberleys, who have worked with Bruckheimer on other films like ” Bad Boys II ” and ” G-Force,” Meanwhile, Jon Turteltaub,.

National Treasure is coming back, this time as a TV show on Disney+, The series has been handed the official green light by Disney and will see the franchise continue on the small screen. What’s more, the show will feature a Latina in the leading role, which means Nicolas Cage will not be leading another treasure hunt as Benjamin Gates,

Though there is still a good chance Cage will/can be involved in some capacity. According to multiple reports, the National Treasure TV show is a go and will consist of a ten-episode first season. Original producer and Hollywood titan Jerry Bruckheimer is on board, as are original writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, who are said to be reimagining the franchise for the streaming age.

Incredibly, it’s been over thirteen years since we saw the last of National Treasure, and supporters have been demanding a third entry for just as long. The two old fashioned adventures did decent business at the box office after earning a combined total of over $800 million, while they’ve since gone on to enjoy a lasting legacy as a pair of entertainingly undemanding blockbusters.

On the big screen at least, Disney are steadfastly gearing their output towards continuing existing franchises and attempting to launch new ones, so it seems strange that Nicolas Cage ‘s Benjamin Gates has yet to return. The first installment and sequel Book of Secrets received middling reviews from critics, but they’ve found a place in the hearts of fans around the world.
